I was approached to provide a stylish, easily updatable web presence for a young, female kitesurfer taking a 6 month trip around the world. She wanted to be able to keep friends and family updated on her travels, so I decided a WordPress blog was the best option.
The website was designed using Dreamweaver CS4 and Fireworks CS4. The design was tested in the most popular web browsers on different operating systems. I then set about converting the design into a WordPress template.
I customised the WordPress installation by configuring various plug-ins to enhance the functionality of the site, including a photo gallery and a contact form.

I was approached to create a static website for a small, newly formed business looking to have a strong online presence. The completed site was to mainly target wedding couples, therefore a pale colour scheme was chosen. This also fits in with the company image.
The website was designed using Dreamweaver CS4 and Fireworks CS4 making use of various technologies (listed below). Once the design of site was complete, it was tested in the most popular web browsers on different operating systems to ensure maximum compatibility.
The site makes use of the jQuery JavaScript framework to create an on page pop-up which is used to view enlarged versions of photos. The jQuery framework is also implemented in other areas of the site to show and hide large amounts of content.

I was approached to create a static website for a new business starting up in the local area offering high quality alloy wheel repair services. My client already had a good idea of what they wanted from the site and prepared a logo and some photos that they wanted to include.
The website was designed using Adobe Dreamweaver, Fireworks & Flash CS4 making use of the technologies listed below. Once the layout was in place, I added the pre prepared content, ensuring the site is as search engine friendly as possible as work on the site progressed.
The website also features a small photo gallery that makes use of the jQuery JavaScript framework to create an on page pop-up to view an enlarged photo. The FAQ's page also employs the use of jQuery for showing and hiding content.

Dan James is a young, talented, professional kitesurfer looking to promote himself and his superb abilities to the world. He wanted a stylish, yet clean and simple to use website which would be easy to update with his latest news, photos and videos.
It was decided that a customised WordPress installation would provide the best results. Once the basics were installed, and the custom theme was completed and configured I started configuring the extra functions for the JavaScript photo galleries and embedded flash videos.
The good quality, regularly updated content combined with some successful promotion has helped to attract a steady flow of visitors to the site from around the world.

Portfolio: Wight Francheville Hotels
For my first university project we were tasked with creating a simple, static website for a small hotel chain based on the Isle of Wight. The site had to be user friendly and function correctly in all the major web browsers.
After several designs were drafted, I finally settled for the one you can see above. I felt this was the best design because it is simple & easy to navigate, yet still displays all or the required information. The blue colour scheme was chosen to fit in with the nautical theme of the island.
We were required to use JavaScript to enhance the website and for form validation, however I went beyond the design brief and also used PHP to ensure users would be unable to bypass the JavaScript validation. I went on to achieve a grade of 80% for the website and final report.

I was approached by my client to create an online catalogue of products for his business, with the option to purchase online. The checkout process needed to be quick, easy and logical. The original site was only to feature 200 products, it has since grown and now offers over 1250.
I set about creating a bespoke e-commerce system from the ground up, which allowed me to tailor it to the exact requirements my client had provided. The site was created using Adobe Dreamweaver CS4 & Adobe Fireworks CS4. The back-end is powered by PHP and MySQL.
Once the customer has selected products to purchase, payment is handled via PayPal. We decided this would be a good solution as a high number of his regular customers already had accounts. The site now has a good search engine ranking and is receiving a steady flow of visitors.

My client for this project wanted to display a selection of her art work to the world via the internet as well as some brief information about herself in the hope of attracting some new commissions.
It was decided a grey colour scheme would work best, complementing her paintings. The site was created in Adobe Dreamweaver CS3 and Adobe Fireworks CS3 was used to prepare her artwork for use on the web.
The site features a fading image at the top, displaying a selection of her work. One of the most impressive features on the site is the gallery called "The Dome" where users can hover over a large image of the Millennium Dome, and then view the highlighted section in more detail.

This project involved creating a bespoke content management system (CMS) for my client. This allows the club to update their website quickly and easily themselves. They are able to edit existing content, manage photo & video galleries, add new pages, change navigation links etc.
As well as the main site, there is also a popular forum. It is running phpBB 3, with several modifications for extra functionality & greater control. I also created a custom skin to integrate the forum into the main site. Once complete, I was invited to become a committee member.
I have also made use of several search engine optimisation techniques to help improve traffic to the site in the hope of bringing new members to the club. They are currently receiving around 150 unique visitors a day to the site.

My client came to me with an old, out-dated website that was failing to attract new customers to his business. I was tasked with giving the website a major overhaul and new look that fitted in with the company colour scheme. SEO was also to be considered throughout the project.
I created a standards compliant design using the company colour scheme of yellow and green in Macromedia Dreamweaver & Fireworks 8. The black and white photos complement the colour scheme nicely, and a clear, easy to read font was chosen for the page text.
This site features JavaScript photo galleries which allow for different images to be displayed, without having to re-load the page. Three pages are provided with a brief overview to the business in different languages are also provided to try and attract custom from outside the UK.

Portfolio: Highcliffe Sailing Club
I was approached by the local sailing club in late 2006 to design and create a new website for them. They wanted the site to be easily accessible to as many visitors as possible and to be easily to updateable at anytime without the need for technical skills.
It was decided that a bespoke content management system would be the most appropriate, with different admin users having different permissions to access different features. There is also a members area, where sensitive information, only for access by club members is held.
This was my second project for a client. The club now maintains the website themselves and have made some design changes since the original site was created, however the many of the original features are still in place.
